DP and FDC host the Annual Conference for the Democrat Union of Africa
The Democrat Union of Africa (DUA) representing both ruling and opposition parties on the centre and centre right conservative spectrum is holding its Annual Conference in Entebbe, Uganda by kind invitation of the Democratic Party and Forum for Democratic Change. The Conference will be held on Saturday 20 and Sunday 21 October 2007 at the Imperial Beach Resort Hotel, Entebbe. This is the first time since the advent of multi party democracy in Uganda that DUA has held a meeting in Uganda.
The theme of the conference is ‘Africa since Independence – Building on Our Potential’. Delegates from throughout Africa will debate and discuss critical issues affecting Africa today and consider progress made since independence. These will include creating an economic framework for success, delivering affordable and effective healthcare and education and defeating corruption and embedding good governance. Peter MacManu, the National Chairman from the New Patriotic Party, the ruling party of Ghana, currently chairs DUA. Ghana will give the opening presentation on Ghana – ‘Celebrating 50 Years of Independence and looking to the future’.
John Kizito Ssebaana, President of the Democratic Party said “The Democratic Party welcomes the members and visitors of DUA to this great occasion when the centre-right family members in Africa converge in Uganda”.
Dr Kizza Besigye, President of the Forum for Democratic Change said “This is a wonderful opportunity for African democracies to have parties of the same ideology working and supporting each other. This kind of networking is bound to entrench democracy in Africa more than ever before”.
