The 2The 2011 Democrat Union of Africa (DUA) Youth School was held in Dar es Salaam, Tanzania from the 25-27 November 2011 and hosted by Chadema Party.
Opening the Youth School, the Deputy Secretary General of Chadema Hon. Zito Kabwe (MP) underscored the successes of the DUA Youth School in producing future leaders for Africa. He said as a product of the 2002 Youth School he applied the ideas and networking skills to get himself into Parliament and also win the confidence of his Party to get him the position of the Deputy General Secretary of Chadema.
According to Hon. Kabwe who attended the programme in the company of the Chadema Youth Chairman John Heche, Africa was not poor of resources but suffered from a leadership deficit and that Africa could only make a positive impact in the lives of her people when rural poverty is comprehensively tackled. He showed praises on recently held elections in countries such as Zambia and Liberia where their electoral commissions conducted themselves creditably in the conduct of their Presidential Elections.
Peter Mac Manu who chaired the programme on behalf of the DUA Chairman Dr. Kizza Besigye gave a brief history of DUA and thanked the Conservative Party for sponsoring the Youth School.
James Cockram from the Conservative Party reiterated the continuous commitment of the Conservative Party to support worthy causes like the DUA Youth School and hoped the outcomes would help Africa redefine herself.
The International Young Democrat Union (IYDU) Secretary General, James Marriott gave a presentation on the work of the IYDU and how it cooperates with the DUA.
DUA Secretary General ,Charles Owiredu tasked participants to share knowledge, learn best practices and build networks since these were the essence of their participation in the Youth School.
Participants were schooled on topics such as the Principles for a free society, developing policies and manifestos, effective campaigning and communication etc.
Participants came from Lesotho (BNP), Uganda (DP), Uganda (FDC), Seychelles (NDP), Ghana (NPP), Tanzania (Chadema), Kenya (DP), Liberia (Unity Party), Cote d’Ivoire (PDCI), Mozambique (Renamo) and Namibia (DTA).
